Canadian businesses now required by law to report significant data breaches

As of November 1st, the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) will require Canadian businesses to report significant data breaches to the Privacy Commissioner. Businesses will also need to notify affected individuals of the breach and retain records of all breaches in order to be compliant with the new federal legislation.
